Is Hope Is A Good Thing Poster Still Relevant?
“Hope is not a good thing,” reminds me of the old Ziva lamp post sign on Rodeo Drive. While I don't remember that sign, I do remember the Ziva restaurant on Avenue at Westheimer. The Ziva there used to say “Happy Birthday,” and it made me smile each time I looked at it. Is hope a good thing? Today's question is answered with resounding YES.
Hope is not a good thing because if we have it, we also need to give thanks. In fact, the first Christian message I recall from Jesus was “Hopes not a stone; stones cannot withstand a hope.” He did not say hope is a good thing because He put it in context to be a teaching lesson about how we should view the good things we have in life.
Hope does not guarantee us anything. If it did, I could buy every available item on Rodeo Drive, regardless of its value. What would be the use of hope then? Of course, my hope for others would be to help them find hope for their own future.
“He has given you a new hope that not even death can destroy,” said Jesus. Do you think that's a reference to hope? If so, what did Jesus mean by that? If I told you, “othy, your brother,” you might think I'm a little off when I say “your brother.”
Did you ever wonder why the deceased loved his family so much? Why didn't he ever show signs of his love for them? Why didn't he try to communicate more to them? The answer to his lack of communication is because he didn't want to hurt them. He wanted to make them happy. If you love someone enough, you'll do anything to keep them happy.
Hope is the hope that things will get better. Hope is the hope that things will get better fast. Hope is the hope that things will get better right away. That hope gives us the courage to continue forward instead of walking back.
This kind of hope can only come from within. I have heard many Christians say things like, “I don't want to see the Lord in failure.” Is that what you're really saying? Are you saying that you don't want the Lord to fail? Have you stopped trying to follow him and have you stopped believing that he is closer than you are to him?
Hope is the good thing that keeps us going. Hope is the good thing that keeps us moving forward. Hope is the good thing that keeps us smiling. Hope is the good thing that makes us take the bad with good cheer.
Hope is not something that we get from the movies, TV shows, or music. There is no place for hope in these places. They are placebos. They do not represent hope. A good thing is hope.
Hope is something we work for. Hope is the good that makes us do the hard things. It makes us move mountains. It makes us climb that mountain that stands between joy and sadness. The Hope is something that empowers us to get through it and to look beyond it and to be happy even when it is not easy.
The Hope is something that is not given easily. It is not handed to us on a silver platter. It has to be earned. It has to be worked for and built by each individual person. We each have to find the strength within ourselves to continue trusting our hope and our faith.
If you want others to see the good that you have in yourself, and you want them to continue to trust you and to follow you, then you need to put your Hope on display. Put a Hope is a good thing poster right next to your mattress. Make sure that every time you look at it, you remember that life is a gift and that hope is a good thing. And share it with others.
