Salvador Dali Art
Salvador Dali is one of those figures who ranks very highly on the list of influential artists in the world. He is probably best known for his surreal, dreamlike paintings. He produced some of his best work during the period when he was at the height of his career.
Salvador Dali was a famous Spanish surrealist, and among the most lauded figures in the art history of modern art. He was born in Uruguay, and later became a famous painter in Spain. A notable early work by Dali shows a person in a stretched position, with his arms out to the left and his head facing the sky. Under the title of Burras el Grande, or Beautiful Land, this picture is considered one of his greatest works. Dali's other masterpieces are The Garden of Living Color (1934), and The Bridge of Trysts (1940). Both of these paintings are instantly recognisable as belonging to the genre of surrealism.
As might be expected, Dali also created beautiful artwork in color. Much of his work concerns the nature of reality, and how different colors have varying affects upon the human mind. For example, one of his most famous paintings is The Night Cafe (1932), in which a group of people sit in front of a huge illuminated coffee machine. In this work, Dali has explored the relationship between light and darkness, as well as man's obsession with beauty.
One of Dali's most famous paintings is entitled The Descent of Wolves. It was produced in 1932, when Dali was in pre-war Vienna. In this large scale painting, we can see sheep's heads raised to the skies as they wander aimlessly over a field. The sheep include a couple having a lovemaking session, and an unconscious boy lying in the foreground. The painting is a depiction of innocence lost, as well as a look at how man relates to animal life. In particular, Dali focuses his attention on the eyes of the sheep, which rest upon a Lamb's shoulder.
In addition to his paintings, Dali created a number of sculptures in his life, including the plaster head of Christ the Redeemer. One sculpture in particular, entitled Homage to the Mother of God, is a beautiful recreation of the Virgin Mary's face. Dali's other pieces have been shown in numerous galleries, including The Neck of the Narai, and The Woman with a Pearl Hair Ribbon. These art pieces not only reflect the styles of Salvador Dali, but also his own individual artistic sense.
Dali's style is characterized by bold shapes and colours, as well as an abundance of dark, saturated colours. Many of his paintings feature vividly coloured skies, sea scenes, or bustling, modern cities. However, many are also landscapes taken from the mountains of Chile and Argentina. Some pieces are also filmed in their natural environment, such as with scenes from the woods and waterfalls found in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. As well as these natural settings, Dali also often used artificial ones, such as with a recreation of a Moorish church in his Madam tuso painting.
As well as being a master of painting and sculpture, Dali was also a very skilled sculptor. In fact, he is perhaps best known for designing the interior of his famous Fountain of Youth. In this work, he used several hundred individually designed water drops and rocks to create a youthful paradise. A similar piece of art, which also features a water fountain, can be seen in the San Diego Museum of Art. While it is unclear whether Dali considered this style of art, it does show that his sense of design was far more innovative than the common staid nature of his contemporaries.
Dali's influence upon contemporary art can still be seen today, with an increasing number of artists looking to re-create some of his work. The style of Dali's artwork has never really gone out of style, even though it has been revived and modernized by many other artists. In fact, many of today's artists probably owe their success to Dali. The reason for this is that his vision was so forward-looking, and the impression that he made on others was undeniable.
