Vermeer Paintings

The term Vermeer actually derives from a Dutch word which means squander or waste. These were the very first paintings produced by an artist who was well known for his extravagant expenditure and luxurious lifestyle. He was also well renowned for being a very meticulous painter, taking great pains to ensure that his final output would be as good as possible. One of the paintings in particular that he produced, The Night Watch was commissioned by Charles Vitellius, the Duke of Gloucester. This painting is one that is normally associated with Vermeer, and is often thought to be the most beautiful of all his work.

Many art historians believe that this particular painting is amongst the best of the Vermeer paintings that they have ever seen. They state that the colours in The Night Watch are extremely vivid and that the painting conveys a strong sense of emotion. However, many experts do not agree with this claim, saying that the colours in the painting are simply different versions of each other. Many experts have also pointed out that the colours in the painting do not match up to the background of the painting – causing the viewer's eye to move around the picture in search of something else.

Another famous painting that some art historians believe belongs to Vermeer is The Girl with a Pearl Earring. This is another painting that belonged to the age of Louis XIV, and depicts a young woman who is dressed in silk with a thick veil. Some scholars have argued that the outfit in the painting does not match the time period that the painting portrays, but modern experts believe that this is highly unlikely. The painting in question does show the young woman with a pearl earring, but it does not portray any scene that would fit this description. Modern experts think that there are several problems with this painting, the most notable being that the positioning of the girl is very awkward.

A Vermeer Painting that some enthusiasts regard as belonging to the later era of French art, The Procuress is a painting that was executed around the end of the seventeenth century. It depicts a young woman who wears a poise and walks with her head held high. In addition to being highly awkward, the posture of the girl in the painting also looks unnatural, as though she is trying to gain height by standing straight up. Some experts argue that the poise and posture is unnatural, since the young woman should be stooping low and her head should be held up as she walks. Furthermore, they say that the colours used in this painting are too garish and confusing for a painting done in the seventeenth century.

A Vermeer Paintings that some experts regard as belonging to the Post-Impressionist or Pre-Raphaelite periods is The Night Before Christmas. This particular painting dates back to the late nineteenth century and depicts a young woman who is dressed in a long white gown. Her dress appears to be that of an expecting mother who is about to give birth to a child. Other experts argue that the colours used in this painting date from the Art Nouveau period. The style and brush strokes used on this picture look very strange, they say, and even the suggestion of child birth in the background makes them suspect that the painting really belongs to a pre-Raphaelite era.

Another famous Vermeer painting that is often confused with a nineteenth century oil painting is The Water jug. This painting shows a young woman playing with a small boy. The style and brush strokes used on the subject suggest a lady's work, but there is no way to determine whether the woman in the painting is a lady or a boy. This painting has been subject to much debate between experts, with some claiming that it belongs to the Impressionist period while others think it belongs to the Pre-Raphaelites. If you are planning to add this painting to your collection, the consensus seems to be that it belongs to the Impressionist period, so if you are a true admirer of Vermeer's art, then you should add this particular painting to your collection.

The last Vermeer painting that we are going to discuss belongs to C. M. R. Frick's The laughing girl. To date, this is the only Vermeer painting that is part of the C.M.R.R.Frick collection, and it can also be seen in the famous museum in Florence, Italy which houses the original edition of The Water jug. The origins of the title can also be traced to The Water jug. In this painting, we can see a young woman playing with a pitcher full of water, while a frog sits at her side.

In all three paintings mentioned above, we can see that Vermeer was always ahead of his time, even when it came to colour. He had already created impressionist paintings such as The laughing girl way back in 1660, and it would only be a matter of time before he created another one. Now that he is gone, there are many experts who are working hard to bring this visionary artist's work to a new audience.
