The Nissan Altima

The Nissan Altima was introduced as the 1993 model year vehicle. It replaced the Stanza and featured a 150 horsepower inline four mated to either a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic. The first-generation Altima was built in the U.S., but there were briefly coupe and hybrid models. Today, the Altima is still a popular midsize car.

It was a midsize sedan with an expansive rear seat, better suspension, and an available V6 engine. When it was introduced, Nissan had fallen on hard times and the Altima helped the company get back on track. With its upscale appearance and sporty features, the Altima captured a large share of the midsize family sedan market. The sporty SE trim even out-shined the Maxima.

For the 2000 model year, the Nissan Altima had a new turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine that increased power to 155 horsepower. The 2.5-liter base engine was updated as well with all-wheel drive available on some trim levels. Standard technology and active safety features have been improved. An eight-inch color display and power driver's seat are standard in the base model. Keyless entry with an alarm and a sport-tuned suspension were also added in 2001.

However, the CVT simulates conventional automatic shifts, but the performance of the car depends on the driving habits of the owner. The 3.5-liter engine has a refined CVT that improves fuel economy. It has a 3.7-liter V6 and a 5.6-liter V6.

The Nissan Altima was launched with two gasoline engines. The base four-cylinder engine earns up to twenty-nine mpg city and forty-eight mpg highway. Its sporty GXE and luxury-trimmed GLE both feature body-color front and rear spoilers. The VC-Turbo engine gets up to thirty-eight mpg city. With a little tweaking, the Altima has a high-mileage fuel economy.
