Oil paintings are paintings made from oil paints. Oil paint is considered a permanent medium because it is so thick and dense. Oil paintings require either oil paints, gels, or enamel paint. Vincent Van Gogh was an incredible artist, who created many beautiful works of art. His most famous painting is “Starry Night”. In this particular work, Van Gogh painted not only the night sky, but he painted many different vibrant colors as well. The majority of the painting is a simple multi-colored field of bright colored stars. Many critics believe that Vincent Van Gogh was working under a contract to sell this work to a specific buyer.

Enamel paint is another painting medium used by Vincent Van Gogh. This type of medium was created by mixing silica carbonate with ground up minerals and adding a drying agent. This enamel was used to create fine textures and paints in the early days of enamel paint creation. The early master painters were quite impressed with this new medium and began to use it for similar types of paintings in the late nineteenth century.

The third type of painting medium that Vincent Van Gogh used was tempera paint. This was a form of paint that was made from powdered minerals that have been ground down into a fine powder. The paint could then be mixed with water or oil to create a thick consistency. This paint did have a thicker consistency compared to enamel paint. It is believed that Vincent Van Gogh first used tempera paint on some of his oil paintings that he completed in areas such as Prosesse's painting of Saint-Remy.

Other famous paintings that contain primary colors that are derived from primary pigments are paintings done by artists such as Leo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Donatello. These famous artists used primary pigments as well as various other types of coloring materials. It is also believed that Da Vinci may have used parthenia, a form of iron oxalate, in one of his oil paintings.
